Today's Wrestling Observer Radio saw Dave Meltzer note current speculation linking Brock Lesnar with what would be a major WWE match against UFC legend Daniel Cormier.

Meltzer was speaking in the wake of last week's announcement that Cormier will be at WWE Extreme Rules 2022 this Saturday (8 October), serving as a special guest referee for Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle's Fight Pit reprisal. Pivoting from this, Meltzer reported that Cormier's name had been brought up as a potential WWE SmackDown commentator "many times", as the show's network, FOX, loved his work as a UFC broadcaster. That Daniel is contracted to ESPN makes this difficult, though.

Continuing, Meltzer noted that Cormier, a lifelong wrestling fan, has always wanted to work with WWE. He now has his chance to do it. Whether or not Cormier still desires to compete isn't known, though people have speculated on a match with Lesnar.

Cormier is a former UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion. The 43-year-old retired from mixed martial arts in August 2020, doing so after a defeat to Stipe Miocic, having claimed such scalps as Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, and former Lesnar conqueror Frank Mir during his legendary career.

Inducted into the UFC Hall of Famer earlier this year, Cormier (known as much for his personality as his fighting skills) has forged a successful broadcasting career that began while he was still active in the Octagon.

A former UFC Heavyweight Champion himself, Lesnar has not competed since his SummerSlam 2022 defeat to Roman Reigns.
