Hulk Hogan In Talks About Possible WWE Return

Trump is President, so why not?

It's no secret that for WWE, money is more important than morals, and with ratings in alarming decline the company are desperately searching for any means possible to arrest the dwindling viewership. Creating new main-eventers seems beyond them, so as ever it's down to a cavalcade of superannuated superstars of a bygone era to pop a rating. Like a balloon, they can only be popped once, but there aren't many left over from the party.

A 49-year old Goldberg is already back, to headline a PPV no less, The Undertaker will make a long-awaited return on a run-of-the-mill SmackDown show, and with the Royal Rumble emanating from San Antonio, Shawn Michaels is basically guaranteed to make an appearance - though it's unlikely to be in wrestling boots. The proverbial well is running dry, and WWE are prepared to take any last drop they can - no matter how tainted the water.

After that infamous tape was released (no, not the other one) featuring Hulk Hogan uttering repugnantly unsavoury racial epithets which don't bear repeating here, WWE quickly - and justifiably - made moves to distance themselves from the Hulkster. But the road to forgiveness has many on-ramps, the most accessible being desperation.

It's no coincidence then, that after the company seemingly scrubbed Hogan from history entirely, his voice has began to reappear on the promotion's programming. Whilst nothing is concrete at present, reports from PWInsider confirm the two parties have opened dialogue in an attempt to renew cooperation. Other rumours suggesting the Hulkster had been contacted for a wrestling role at WrestleMania 33 were quickly scotched by Hogan himself on Eric Bischoff's podcast, attributing the story to idle gossip from daughter Brooke.

Nevertheless, it is once again a possibility. Following his $31m Gawker settlement, the restored relationship completes what has all-in-all been a fairly good week for Hogan. And can any of us say we're surprised at this? After all, Donald Trump is set to be the new President and - without casting aspersions on any Trump voters reading - it has basically set the precedent that you can say pretty much anything, and it just doesn't matter. And hey: WWE never removed him from their Hall of Fame.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
