If WWE.com Was Being Honest: 5 Articles That Deserve New Titles

2. Their Super Bowl Ad

What the article is called: "See The Commercial WWE Ran During The Big Game In 1999"

What it should be called: "Remember When We Used To Be Cool!"

Back in 1999, it cost a cool $2.1 million to run an ad during The Super Bowl. These days it’s unlikely that Vince McMahon would pony up $5,000,000 to air one. On WWE.com, they wanted you to relive the days that their flagship show was drawing an average 5.9 rating (now close to a third of that) with their old commercial. And man, just look at that ad: Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind and a 33-year-old Undertaker. Those were the days. I wanna go back!

It’s understandable why WWE would want to show off their WWF Attitude ways by dusting off that commercial and putting it on the site, but it really just makes you realize how far things have gone downhill.

Imagine the company airing a Super Bowl ad today, who the hell would they even put in it? Probably something like: Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Randy Orton and a 51-year-old Undertaker, since they’re treated as the biggest stars in the company. There’s no way they’d trust Kevin Owens or A.J. Styles in a featured role...though much like Kane and Triple H in the '99 ad, they may find themselves somewhere lurking in the background.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
