If WWE Superstars Were Football Teams...

9. Jack Swagger - Blackburn Rovers

Though he was a star in the rebooted ECW (to an extent), Jack Swagger was never over to a main event level. So it came as a shock to all when he won Money In The Bank at WrestleMania in 2010, going on to cash the briefcase and claim the world heavyweight title just under a month later.

Swagger held the belt for just three months before relinquishing the strap, and that was where the glory days ended. Now the 'All-American American' is nothing more than an elevated jobber, unlikely to trouble the main event picture again any time soon.

Swagger's career trajectory is a reflection of Blackburn Rover's recent history. From out of nowhere (but largely thanks to Jack Walker's millions), Alan Shearer fired the Lancashire club to the unlikeliest of league titles. Just a season later, Rovers were already in decline, eventually dropping through the leagues.

What chance of Swagger and Rovers dining from the top table again in the near future? I wouldn't hold your breath.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
