Aubrey Edwards made history this past Saturday by officiating the AEW World Championship match between Chris Jericho and Hangman Page at All Out, and wouldn't you know it, there's now a sudden demand for female referees within rivals WWE.

According to Casey Michael of Squared Circle Sirens, execs in Stamford are actively looking for new officials, and in particular, female ones. Michael also reports that the company offered a job in the stripes to an independent wrestler, only to be rebuffed.

We don't know the identity of their attempted hire at present.

Aside from special guest referees, WWE have only had two female referees on their books over the past forty years. Jessika Carr is the second and currently only woman amongst the promotion's 21-strong officiating team today.

Rita Chatterton - under the name 'Rita Marie' - preceded Carr, but has since been erased by WWE's history books following a high-profile sexual assault allegations back in 1986. Vince and Linda McMahon sued Chatterton over the claims, and ultimately the case never progressed.

Aubrey Edwards could have been a third; she worked a set of NXT tapings last July, but WWE declined on signing her.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
