Interesting Note On Sting's Original AEW Retirement Plans

AEW Revolution in March 2024 wasn't when Sting planned to retire, but plans changed.

Sting has revealed that he originally planned to retire in December 2023, not at AEW's Revolution pay-per-view in March 2024. So, what changed?

Ric Flair arrived in All Elite Wrestling, that's what changed.

The Stinger told Sports Illustrated that working with the 'Nature Boy' has made him "want to go longer". Of course, the ex-WCW, TNA and WWE great won't be going too much longer - he's still scheduled to work his final match ever at Revolution.

Before that, Sting teams with regular pal Darby Allin and Adam Copeland to face Christian Cage, Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne at Full Gear on 18 November. That bumper trios battle will be one of the icon's final bouts, but not the final bout.

There's obviously no word quite yet on who will have the honour of wrestling Sting's last match. No, no it won't be Flair! The pair have been tied together for much of Sting's active career, but there's zero clamour to see Ric haul on some boots ever again.

So, there you go. Sting planned to call it quits next month, but he'll hang around a little longer due to Flair's arrival.
