Jeff Hardy Says The Hardys Won't Be Signing With WWE Any Time Soon
Smoke and mirrors?
The question of Jeff and Matt Hardy's impending return to WWE has increasingly looked like a done deal and a matter of when rather than if since their acrimonious split from Impact. That looked to have taken a further crank into becoming reality this weekend as the pair dropped the ROH Tag title to the Young Bucks in Orlando - the inevitable last step before a grand return.
But if you choose to believe Jeff Hardy, it's not as simple as that. He spoke to Chuck Carroll of CBS Local Sports a couple of days ago and was inevitably posed with the question of their return, after the latest round of news seemed to suggest a contract had been offered:
"No, because you have to go through so much testing and all of that. It's a long process. But, no. We know some people there and naturally after WrestleMania dies down, maybe a couple of months from now, we'll see what's possible. But there is no truth to that whatsoever."
So despite him being in the close vicinity of the event, Hardy says he and Matt won’t be appearing at WrestleMania, Monday Night RAW or SmackDown Live! on Tuesday, which would be a major blow to fans hoping to see their brand back in the company.
Some might call that a rumour killer, but there's room It's almost as if Hardy would be reluctant to spoil what would be the biggest possible return at Mania this year. Though, having said that, Hardy does expressly say that the pair do still have an ongoing deal with ROH:
“It’s short-term. It’s through the summer. What’s cool about Ring of Honor is that we can still go out and work the indie dates. That’s another thing about the TNA deal was that they wanted to take our indy dates from us and I really enjoy working the independent circuit. You meet some crazy, cool, interesting people and the shows have been so great as of late. I would say our Ring of Honor deals are through the summer. It’s a short-term deal and we’ll see how things go. We’ll test the waters for a while and hopefully help the company grow.”

So maybe the smoke and mirrors theory is out of place?
As something of a caveat, there's no reason a contract would even need to come into consideration for them to appear at WrestleMania 33. As another, when Hardy last spoke to Carroll, he made it pretty clear that they were about to resign with Impact.
The wide-ranging interview also talks about his future plans for ROH, including his ambitions to play live music at a live show - which WWE probably wouldn't entertain given their over-zealous penchant for Flo Rida.
