Jerry Lawler 'It's Good To Be The King' DVD Review: 17 Interesting Observations

13. Jerry's Wrestling Hero & Two More Careers

Jackie Fargo was Jerry's wrestling hero as a child and mentor as a rookie in the business. A man The King describes as being The Rock or Stone Cold Steve Austin of his time, Fargo is the best wrestler Lawler ever saw. Just like Lance Russell, Fargo saw a couple of Lawler's now famous drawings and requested to see the would-be King before employing him as his official artist of sorts. Jerry would draw pictures of Fargo and his wrestling/business partners as well as drawing signs for numerous outlets. Eddie Bond, a big player on the radio scene in Memphis, and one of Jackie's partners, hired Lawler to present his own radio show from 7pm-midnight on KWAM Radio as no one else wanted to fill the slot. As well as being an artist with a growing reputation, Jerry Lawler was now a DJ which begged the question: would a career in the ring have room to actually happen?
