Jerry Lawler 'It's Good To Be The King' DVD Review: 17 Interesting Observations
10. Too Much Too Soon
While making sizeable waves in the wrestling business at the age of 19 or 20, Lawler got married and had two children. This would be a mountain for a normal 9-5 worker to climb so imagine the struggles that must cause for a man, and his wife for that matter, who are barely home. A surprise (for those who saw RAW on March 14, 2011) as Brian Christopher appears, telling us the same sort of things he used during that now infamous promo on WWE TV. Things like his dad never being home, never being there for birthdays etc. The sort of thing you would expect any wrester's child to say. Jerry, obviously full of regret, tells of how he was in different cities the night of both his children's respective births. But that is the nature of the beast, if you're not on the road, you aren't making money and can't provide for your family. It's one of the many, and arguably main pitfall of being at the top of the professional wrestling business. Christopher then tells of the struggle the family went through when his parents got divorced when he was only six. They, unbelievably considering Jerry was on the road six days a week, saw him even less. Brian, and his younger brother Kevin would see their dad on Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthdays. That was it. Jerry then tells of how when he was growing up he aspired to be the guys he saw on TV without considering the sacrifices they were having to make. A sin the majority of wrestling fans are guilty of to this day.
