Jim Ross Recalls WWE Star Thinking He Was "Screwed" On His WrestleMania Payoff

A WWE main-eventer called up JR and was hot about his WrestleMania pay.

Nobody was left satisfied by the infamous Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg match at WrestleMania XX back in 2004, but Brock was more p*ssed than most by the fallout.

Jim Ross revealed via his 'Grilling JR' podcast that an irate Lesnar called up WWE headquarters and specifically asked to speak with Vince McMahon. When the boss said he was busy, poor JR had to take the call instead - he's just glad the resultant conversation was over the phone and not face-to-face.

Brock was angry with his payoff for the pay-per-view. He'd received $250,000, which (from a fan's perspective) feels like it'd be quite generous for a match smack bang in the midcard. Lesnar disagreed, and told Jim that WWE had "screwed" him with that dollar count.

JR asked what the departing star was basing that on. Did he really think the number was too low, or was somebody in his ear stirring things? Lesnar supposedly didn't answer that before hanging up on Ross.

The iconic announcer and then-Head of Talent Relations didn't take that personally. Again, he was just relieved that Brock hadn't come storming into his office in person.
