Independent wrestling show-stopper Joey Ryan is causing a storm on social media today, brought on by the release of his new "Farewell to the Indies" t-shirt design.

The 39-year-old posted the following update on Twitter last night, noting that his time on the indies was coming to an end while teasing signing for WWE with his use of the Raw hashtag, that scamp:-

Taking this tweet at face value is dangerous. It's professional wrestling, Ryan is one hell of a worker, and there's every chance he's just trying to get people talking. Regardless, him signing with a major promotion sometime within the next few months is a borderline certainty.

Finally free of his restrictive Lucha Underground contract, Ryan has been heavily-linked with All Elite Wrestling since the promotion's inception. Last week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter brought the surprising news that WWE had reached out to him as well, though it's hard to say how he'd fit in with Vince McMahon's PG Sports Entertainment product.

A divisive performer he may be, but few independent wrestlers have been able to build a following like Ryan's throughout his 19 years in the business. His buzz-generation skills alone make him an attractive signing for any company.
