While previous reports have stated how John Cena is “a lock” to compete at WrestleMania 37, the man himself has moved to play down such stories.

In a new interview with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Cena has outright ruled out appearing at this year’s Showcase of the Immortals due to commitments to HBO Max’s Peacemaker series.

Currently, Big Match John is in Vancouver, Canada at work on this series – itself a prequel spin-off based around Cena’s character from James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad – and he explained how the logistics just make a WrestleMania appearance impossible.

As the Master of Thuganomics explained:

“Given the quarantine regulations, if I were to leave Canada, upon return I would have to quarantine for another two weeks. Essentially, that would shut production down. Strictly based on the letter of the law right now, there is no logistical way I can be there. We film now until July.”

Given the quarantine restrictions in place right now, it does indeed seem that there is no way whatsoever that John Cena will turn up at WrestleMania 37 unless something major happens in terms of loosening of quarantine rules in Vancouver.

Triple H previously stated how if there’s a way for Cena to be there, he’ll be there. But unfortunately, it simply looks as if there is no way for the 15-time World Champion to appear at the 2021 edition of WWE’s Granddaddy of Them All.

Cena last competed for WWE at WrestleMania 36, losing to 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Fun House bout.
