John Felix Anthony Cena is regarded by some – including Kurt Angle – as being the greatest all-round professional wrestler in the history of the business.

While that’s clearly a subjective matter – or, let’s face it, the real answer is Bret Hart – there’s no doubt that Cena has to be in the conversation when discussing the absolute best of the best. For WWE, Big Match John was their poster boy for the Ruthless Aggression era and beyond, with him being the person on whose back the company was so often placed.

Cena is very much the Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart or Steve Austin of his era. Just, y’know, without the racism in Hogan’s case. But in terms of status and positioning, Super Cena was the guy for pretty much 15 years.

He’s not retired just yet, of course, but at 44 years of age, with an ever-increasing presence in Hollywood and with just three televised matches to his name in the past two years, it’s clear that Cena is winding down his wrestling career.
