Coming into the contest as Ring Of Honor Champion despite his prize not being on the line, Cody nonetheless wrestled like a megastar and titleholder in what remains one of - if not the - best match of the Bullet Club rabble-rouser's career.

Working a cynical pr*ck heel, Cody injected more sports entertainment into an Kazuchika Okada title defence than usual, but didn't damage it with unnecessary platefuls of histrionics. Spitting at the referee, mouthing off at abusive audience members and employing his wife Brandi to run distraction, Cody used his tricks and tactics alike at dethroning the Champion despite eventually succumbing to a Rainmaker.

The match - as much a backdrop for the burgeoning feud between Cody and Kenny Omega particularly when 'The Cleaner' attempted to throw the towel in as a nod to his own Dominion match against the Champion and Cody's failed One Winged Angel attempt - occasionally leaned too heavy on theatrics in place of psychology, with both men abandoning much of the body part work done in an intriguing early stretch in order to hit major moves for a thrilling finale. It was legitimately thrilling though, particularly in how the devilish challenger was dismantled en route to debilitating defeat.
