Kenny Omega Says Wrestling "Has To Be Careful"
AEW star thinks pro wrestling needs to re-evaluate what a "five star match" really is.
Kenny Omega had some choice words for modern pro wrestling during his recent appearance on the CEO Gaming Twitch channel.
The AEW star, who is currently off-screen readying a return, told viewers that the biz needs to be careful it doesn't move too far away from storytelling for the sake of "physical vessels that are supposed to throw each other at the wall until everyone goes ‘kersplat’ and [doesn't] get up again".
Omega also said that's "the kind of wrestling I can’t do anymore".
Kenny has fallen into the trap of bouncing around to earn rave reviews himself, but he fancies putting more emphasis on storytelling when he returns to AEW TV. That, the "Best Bout Machine" says, leads to "peak satisfaction for a lot of fans".
He pointed to his lengthy narrative opposite Hangman Page as proof that carefully-laid out stories with great pay off work. That's the sort of thing Omega wants to do more of when he makes his comeback, and he reckons fans will come along for the ride.
Obviously, Kenny still hopes he's "able to deliver" what people expect in-ring too.
