Kenny Omega To Defend AAA Mega Title In AEW

Though probably not on PPV.

Newly crowned AAA Mega champion Kenny Omega will defend the championship in his home promotion AEW.

'The Cleaner' captured the belt from Lucha Brother Fénix at last Saturday's AAA Héroes Inmortales XIII, and AEW immediately acknowledged the fact before his contest against Joey Janela on this week's episode of Dynamite (although the belt itself was curiously absent).

According to Dave Meltzer, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Tony Khan's group has plans for Omega to put AAA's top title on the LINE - though it won't be on PPVs. AEW's big shows will remain the exclusive domain of the promotion's own premier belt.

Instead, it's "more likely [to be defended] on Dark". It could be the case that AEW don't wish to confuse matters by having additional heavyweight championships on TV, but are happy to use the international strap as an added incentive for hardcore wrestling aficionados over on YouTube.

Meltzer concluded that the deal demonstrates how great the relationship between AEW and AAA is at present - whilst simultaneously highlighting the gradual deterioration of the latter's working arrangement with NJPW.
