For those hoping to see Kevin Steen turn up in AEW at some point in the new year to Package Piledrive everybody, it looks as if the one-time Universal Champion is to remain with WWE for the next several years.

As per Fightful Select, Kevin Owens has re-signed with WWE after the company made him an "excellent offer". WWE is said to be ecstatic at KO deciding to stay with Vince McMahon's sports entertainment juggernaut, with the Canadian's previous contract reportedly due to expire at the end of January 2022.

It's not known exactly how long Owens has re-signed for, although this new arrangement is said to be a multi-year deal.

Fightful adds how their AEW sources told them there would have likely been serious interest in Owens should he have opted to depart WWE. Likewise, these same sources indicated that AEW wouldn't realistically have been able to match the offer that WWE made for the former ROH World Champion.

The 37-year-old Prizefighter signed with WWE in August 2014, making an immediate impact by turning on Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: R Evolution. Owens would soon dethrone Zayn to become the NXT Champion, with him then making his main roster bow the following May.

Up next for KO, he, Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley have a shot at Big E's WWE Title in a fatal four-way bout at the WWE Day 1 PPV on New Year's Day.
