Kofi Kingston made history at WrestleMania tonight when he beat Daniel Bryan to become WWE Champion for the first time.

The New Jersey crowd, who were electric throughout the contest, became absolutely unglued when Kingstony member clocked Bryan with the Trouble in Paradise to claim the three count.

There were emotional scenes after the match, as Kofi celebrated in the ring with his New Day teammates and his two young children. After replacing Bryan's lovely hemp title with the old leather strap, Big E and Xavier Woods presented the new top dog with brand new t-shirts bearing the epithet: "It's a new champion, yes it is!"

The title victory is the feather in the cap of Kofi's prolific 11-year career in WWE, which has seen him capture the Intercontinental and United States titles, both sets of Raw and SmackDown tag straps, as well as the old World Tag Team belts. Despite all his accolades, Kofi had never had a shot at the top prize until tonight.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
