Is CM Punk about to take up a role behind the commentary desk whilst he rehabs from triceps surgery? According to old friend Ace Steel, yes - Steel has told the Wrestling Perspective podcast that WWE fancies sticking Punk on announce duties for the time being.

Fightful Select also reported on the story, and now fans online are running with it by guessing that Punk could be a temporary replacement for Booker T on NXT. It's worth noting that Fightful didn't say that, fans did. Steel's comments seemed to suggest something like that is more likely than a Raw or SmackDown gig though, because he doesn't want to see Punk "on the same show as Drew McIntyre" following the Scot's brutal attack that wrote CM off television.

So, is it possible that Triple H could ask Punk to do some commentary post-surgery? Absolutely. It'd keep his name on TV, and give Punk something to do in the interim heading through WrestleMania season. It's a bit of a downer considering he was originally pencilled in by many to main event one of the nights opposite Seth Rollins, but it'd be better than nothing.

Stay tuned for more on this when it breaks.
