Cody Rhodes has been dropping hints all over the place that he's working a slow burn heel turn on WWE TV, but The Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims he won't be going rogue anytime soon. Interestingly, Dave Meltzer says the company won't pull the trigger on a bold Cody heel run until they're forced to do it.

Currently, that isn't the prevalent feeling behind the curtain. Rhodes still posts super strong merchandise sales, which are obviously important to WWE, and bosses are against rocking the boat when cold hard cash is rolling in. So, in other words, Meltzer reckons it'd be a massive surprise if Cody went full-blown villain soon.

That doesn't, however, mean he'll quit the teasers in his promos and with his general mannerisms on episodes of SmackDown. Recently, Rhodes even acknowledged some of the boos he was getting from live crowds, and he's cut an altogether less fan-friendly figure lately - that was even true before he dropped the WWE Title to Drew McIntyre in a lengthy '3 Stages Of Hell' encounter over in Berlin, Germany.

That happened on the 9 January edition of SmackDown. Since then, Cody has turned his attentions to the returning Jacob Fatu (a babyface). The pair brawled on last week's episode of blue brand telly, and they'll lock horns one on one during this weekend's Saturday Night's Main Event special.

So, to reiterate, sources within WWE don't expect Rhodes to go full on heel soon, but it's always a possibility for later in the year. Plans change fast in pro wrestling, basically!
