Lucha Underground's 34 Wrestlers - Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Fénix

Pros: - Won LU's undisputed match of the year - Current Gift of the Gods champion - Only 24 years old Cons: - Missed much of the late season - Seems trapped in an unending duel with Mil Muertes - Wait, that's not a bad thing, those matches were all amazing Basically ever since Rey Mysterio began to seem less like superhero than a tired dad, much ink has been spilled on the topic of who, if anyone, can be the next Rey Mysterio. We know now that is sure wasn't Sin Cara, and WWE is banking on it being Kalisto, but I'll let you in on a little secret: it's Fénix. It's Fénix, and the people who disagree with that sentiment are split neatly into two categories: people who haven't seen Fénix work, and Kalisto's mom. It's not just his aerial skill, though he is an astonishing athlete; although LU boasts guys that can jump higher or tuck more rotations into a plancha, no one brings all of those elements together with the heart and fighting spirit Fénix has. In that sense, Fénix has as much in common with guys like Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan as he does with his fellow luchadors, and the uncanny sympathy he commands from an audience is what makes him a worthy successor to Mysterio. Fénix is also the inaugural Gift of the Gods champion, a title he won by uniting the seven Aztec medallions that he and others had been compiling for months. Now, he seems destined for yet another collision with Mil Muertes, now the Lucha Underground champion. Life and death. Lucha libre sure does paint with broad strokes. Final Rating: *****
