16. The Poffo Family

The very first thing you'll notice about the Macho Man documentary is that it is produced and edited to a very high standard. This hasn't just been a stitched together production, nor is it a cheesy kayfabe style observation. What we have here is a serious factual documentary which explores the character and man behind Randy Savage. We start off with a look at his family and there's well edited archival footage as part of this. You'll see his dad Angelo wrestling in a bygone black and white era. There's a lot of background info on Angelo Poffo and we learn how his personality influenced his son. "No one saved money like Angelo," Pat Patterson comments. "Angelo and his sons were very frugal," Jerry Lawler adds, in an indication of the Poffo family personalities. Adding further context to the Poffo family background is Randy's elderly mother Judy Poffo. She looks healthy, if a little strange. She's a nice woman and we get the sense of your normal American family. However, Randy wasn't keen on following his father into wrestling...
