MAJOR Changes Could Be Coming To BREAK Royal Rumble Traditions (WWE News)
WWE favours tradition, but knows there's more money to be made. Cash is king.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting that WWE's cherished Royal Rumble PLE could be set for change from 2028 onwards. If "expectations" behind the curtain are anything to go by, then the 2027 event in Arizona's State Farm Stadium could be the final Rumble that takes place on one single night.
Oh yes, the multi-night weekender format is coming for your boy too.
WrestleMania and SummerSlam have turned into 2-night beasts for the company, and it's believed they fancy trying something similar with the Rumble. On paper, this makes sense and would eliminate the problem of monotony when staging both a men's and women's Rumble on the same card.
In theory, WWE bosses could book them on separate nights, possibly even as twin main events. Sources told WrestleVotes/Fightful that this was "seriously considered" for 2027's effort, but then management ultimately decided to stick with tradition and a solitary night of action.
Is it only a matter of time before the Rumble is spread across 2 nights though? It looks like it, so strap in. Being fair, there have been occasional calls amongst punters to do this ever since WWE introduced the women's match back in 2018. Some folks just don't think it's a good idea to book multiple 30-person Rumbles within the span of a few hours.
So, to recap, the 2027 Rumble may wind up being the final event in the series that isn't a weekender. There's no word on whether or not WWE plans to do this with any further PLEs.
