Elias' WWE future has been thrown into question due to uncertainty surrounding the former Ezekiel's contractual status with the market-leading promotion.

Noting prior reports that Elias' WWE contract was due to expire in late 2022, Fightful Select reached out to the promotion to clarify whether or not 'The Drifter' had signed a new deal - but received nothing back.

This situation will raise further questions on Elias' status as the heart of a sporadic year for the midcarder, as far as WWE television appearances go. The 35-year-old last featured on the 15 May episode of Raw, participating in a battle royal, but hasn't worked an on-air singles match since a two-minute squash loss to Omos on the red brand's 3 April show.

Elias has worked only 13 matches for WWE in 2023 across television and live events. At the moment, there has been no indication that he has actually left the promotion.

WWE signed Elias in early 2014, assigning him to NXT before transitioning him over to the main roster through a Raw call-up in April 2017. April saw him branded to Raw as part of the 2023 WWE Draft.
