Major Update On AEW Roster Split And Future Of The Company's Titles
Tony Khan discusses the potential AEW roster split and more.
Ahead of AEW Collision launching this Saturday, there has been plentiful rumblings of All Elite Wrestling enforcing some sort of brand split. Now, there's an update from Tony Khan on that possibility, plus an update on how the company's champions will be featured once Collision debuts.
Speaking during an appearance on Barstool's Rasslin' podcast (via eWrestlingNews.com), Tony Khan was asked about the speculation surrounding a brand split between AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision.
In response, the AEW President seemed to play down the prospect of any hard roster split, though he did use this opportunity to note how the promotion's champions will be featured on both Dynamite and Collision.
As Khan explained:
"I am going to feature certain talent on certain shows, but I haven't drawn any hard lines or locked us into any kind of split roster. I think people are gonna be featured on certain shows, but I also think that gives us great opportunity to showcase certain wrestlers on both Dynamite and Collision at certain times and certain stories that can cross the shows. I think the champions of AEW will be the champions on every show, and frankly, every promotion in the world. We're not shy about the AEW wrestlers going out and taking on the top stars, top competition from other companies."
Discussing the AEW roster and the bonus of having Collision now as part of AEW's weekly TV schedule, Tony added:
"The roster we have is so strong. I believe we have so many great wrestlers, it's impossible to showcase them all in three hours of television. Now, it's a much better opportunity with five hours of television. Across five hours of television, we can really utilise the roster much more frequently and utilise our great wrestlers more than they've ever been used before. So, I'm very excited."
Since the announcement of AEW Collision, there have been rumours that this new show could be used to usher in a hard roster split of the AEW talent. Likewise, other reports have suggested that any such roster split would be a softer one.
Judging by Tony Khan's latest comments, it appears that we won't be getting a solid, hard, cemented split of the promotion's talent. Instead, there will seemingly be freedom to use talents on Dynamite or Collision as needed.
As for AEW Collision, that new weekly show premieres this Saturday, with CM Punk, Thunder Rosa, Miro, Andrade, and Powerhouse Hobbs amongst the non-title holders advertised for Collision. On top of that, AEW World Champion MJF, AEW Tag Team Champions FTR, AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy, AEW Trios Champions House of Black, and ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe have all been part of the Collision advertising - though it remains to be seen if that is merely because those names currently hold gold, or if Collision will represent a more regular home for those talents as and when they lose their respective titles.
Emanating from Chicago's United Center, Saturday's debut offering of AEW Collision will be headlined by CM Punk and FTR taking on Samoa Joe, Jay White and Juice Robinson.
