With Tony Khan having confirmed that William Regal is indeed departing AEW and returning to WWE, there's now an update on His Lordship's impending return to the market leader.

As per Mike Johnson over at PWInsider.com, Regal will be starting back up with WWE in the first week of 2023.

For those wondering about the Brit's presence on AEW Dynamite last night, that was pre-taped due to Regal having a trip back to the UK planned, including an appearance at Wales Comic Con where he addressed his future during a panel chat this past weekend. As such, the Blackpool native didn't have time in his schedule to make another live appearance on AEW programming - which is why AEW presented that video as having been filmed two weeks ago.

Elsewhere, fans of Regal's Gentleman Villain podcast will be disappointed to hear that the show will be ending as part of the aforementioned WWE return.

Yesterday saw Tony Khan detail how Regal requested that AEW did not pick up the option to renew his contract, with the two-time Intercontinental Champion eager to return to WWE to work alongside his son Bailey, who can these days be found in NXT under the Charlie Dempsey moniker. To Khan's credit, despite Regal's clear value to the company, the AEW President was happy to oblige this request, stating how AEW "is a family-first company".

As part of his AEW release, William Regal will only be able to be utilised in a backstage WWE role, with an agreement in place that Regal can't be used as an onscreen character for another year.
