Edge will return to WWE programming on next week's episode of SmackDown.

WWE made the announcement during Friday's edition, and revealed that the 'Rated-R Superstar' will make his first appearance since that injury angle with Seth Rollins on the 10 September show. The interesting thing here is that this means Edge won't be at Extreme Rules this Sunday.

A rematch with Rollins, possibly with the titular Extreme Rules stipulation, had been thrown out there by fans as a possible show-stealer for the pay-per-view. It looks like WWE have other plans though - Edge's comeback also coincides with the first night of the 2021 Draft.

Could he tie up his issues with Seth by beating the heel down, then get traded to Raw in the same segment? Don't rule that out. Edge doesn't really have much left to achieve on SmackDown. He's feuded extensively with both Roman Reigns and Rollins; those two are the blue brand's top villains.

A fresh start on Mondays may be best for business.

For now, WWE are content to tease that Edge will show up as the walking wounded and confront his nemesis. Bring it on.
