Monday's WWE Raw Predicted To Break Record For Lowest Audience Ever?
Raw ratings could sink to levels not seen since Bo Dallas was 6.
Get ready to travel back to 1996!
No, the NWO and Steve Austin aren’t coming back, but Raw’s ratings could potentially fall to levels not seen since that year. Monday night’s episode is taking place on the 4th of July holiday, which is bound to hurt WWE’s flagship show, and perhaps in historic ways.
With ratings already taking a big hit this year, the show has the chance to hit a brand new low, which was a 1.5 rating that was drawn on the Dec. 23rd, 1996 edition of the show. That was a taped episode.
Wrestling Inc. has reported that sports statistician Danny Tuccitto has predicted Monday’s episode will clock in with a 1.58 rating. That is scary.
To put things in perspective, in 2005, Raw took place on the 4th of July, and drew a 2.6 rating. The week before they drew a 4.4. That’s a loss of a 1.8 rating, which the show isn’t even expected to get this upcoming week. On July 4, 2011 they drew a 2.4. These past 11 years have not been kind.
Yes, Raw is airing on a holiday, so people are bound to be out celebrating with family and friends instead, but there’s no good excuse for going back 20 years in time for drawing an audience. It’s been a long time coming with booking mistakes, ridiculous levels of product overexposure, failure to promote new stars, and inconsistent writing.
If a new low is hit, hopefully WWE will finally take it as a wake-up call that huge changes are needed. Happy 4th of July everyone!
