Fightful Select reported yesterday that Kevin Owens had signed a new multi-year WWE contract, with the market-leading promotion extending its former Universal Champion what was described as an "excellent" offer that rivals AEW may not have been able to match.

This drew a line under speculation on Owens' future. The 37-year-old's previous contract was due to expire in January. While even the man himself had teased jumping ship, he opted to stick around.

In an update on the situation, WrestleVotes state that WWE had wanted to sign Owens to a new contract for a while. The promotion felt strongly about retaining him - and were ultimately successful in doing so.

This is WWE's next pay-per-view following the cancellation of its December supercard.

A former Universal and NXT Champion, KO has been with WWE since signing in August 2014.
