More NJPW Talent Possibly Heading To WWE?
WWE reportedly interested in a former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.
Following this week's shocking news that some of the biggest names in New Japan Pro Wrestling (Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows) are heading to WWE, it appears that the raiding of the Japanese organization by WWE might not yet be over. The latest name WWE is reported to be interested in is Rocky Romero. Romero is a former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion in NJPW, alongside Trent Beretta as the team Roppongi Vice. Romero competed Monday at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in a four-way tag team match for the Jr. Heavyweight tag straps, a match won by The Young Bucks. According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE is interested in Romero for a training position at the WWE Performance Center. Romero (33) is fairly young to stop wrestling and convert into a full-time trainer, but he has also recently served in a guest training role at the WWE's Performance Center in Florida. He also was to have reportedly attended a WWE NXT television taping while in town. Romero is a native of Cuba and made a name for himself wrestling in Mexico during the mid 2000s, so a role in Florida for WWE would allow him to be closer to home on a more regular basis. As the WWE continues to acquire talent from the second biggest wrestling organization in the world, some have noted the timing of these reported acquisitions coming during the same week that the WWE Network has launched in Japan. As far as we know right now, there is no tie-in and the timing is coincidental. WWE has been working on launching the Network in Japan for quite some time.
