What is it with Mr. Fuji and Road Warriors knock-offs?

Demolition would shake that particularly tag off through their recording-breaking WWE Tag Team Title run, and much of their success would come with Mr. Fuji by their side. Johnny Valiant had sold Ax & Smack’s contracts to Fuji just before Survivor Series 1987, and Demolition started finding their feet as the tag division’s resident power-heels.

Their first Tag Team Title reign lasted an epic 478 days (which is still a record today), and Fuji played a huge role in kicking it off. Facing-off against Rick Martel & Tito Santana at WrestleMania IV, Ax struck Martel with Mr. Fuji’s cane while Smash was stuck in a Boston Crab. Martel was knocked-out, and Smash recovered to take the pinfall, thus beginning a dominant title reign over a talent-rich division featuring the likes of the British Bulldogs and Hart Foundation.

Mr. Fuji didn’t stay for the duration, however, and abandoned Demolition for The Powers of Pain after claiming Ax and Smash had become unruly and disobedient. Demolition defeated The Powers & Fuji in a handicap match at WrestleMania, but that wasn’t the end of their relationship. With Crush added to the group, Demolition briefly reconnected with Mr. Fuji to help The Orient Express attack the Legion of Doom in 1990, and when Crush went solo, he brought-in Fuji as his manager.
