Despite the fact SmackDown is now being taped, and as such any technical mishaps can easily be ironed out in the edit, the show continued to be plagued by production glitches on this week's episode of the show.

However, we are at least one step closer to learning the identity of the control room menace.

During the fallout of a match between Dolph Ziggler and Tucker, which ended in disqualification for the former after he employed the ring steps, the feed was interrupted by visual glitches which have become characteristic of SmackDown in recent weeks. For the first time, a shrouded figure was shown in the production booth, before a message reading 'THE TRUTH WILL BE HEARD' flashed up on screen.

The unknown meddler asked if the audience had been paying attention, before showing security footage of Ziggler and Sonya Deville conspiring to ruin Otis' date with Mandy Rose.

Though there was no direct confirmation of the technical tinkerer, all superficial signs point to the internet's preferred frontrunner, Mustafa Ali. Given SmackDown is a closed set with comings and goings strictly regulated, you'd think it would have been easy to spot him slipping into the building when not scheduled to wrestle.

With the show in the can for the foreseeable, we can probably expect a resolution to this mystery in the coming weeks.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
