Fresh off wrestling Ricky Starks on this week's special Fyter Fest episode of AEW Dynamite, news that Cole Karter is now "under a deal" with the promotion has broken.

Fightful Select reported on Thursday that the former Troy 'Two Dimes' Donovan had told some AEW wrestlers of his agreement with the promotion. He is believed to be working under a tiered deal.

Karter put forth a good account of himself opposite Starks, failing in his FTR World Championship quest but giving the Team Taz member plenty of difficulty. His AEW history goes back to April 2021, when he made the first of eight squash match appearances for the promotion, primarily on Dark and Dark: Elevation.

Signed to WWE in March 2022, Karter worked as Troy Donovan in Tony D'Angelo's NXT 2.0 stable. He was let go by the promotion due to a reported "policy violation" in June, with Dave Meltzer later stating that the 22-year-old had failed a drug test. Despite this, Karter was reportedly told by WWE management to re-apply for the promotion in a year or so.

Cole returned to AEW for the company's 16 July Dark tapings in Orlando, Florida.
