Edge vs. Roman Reigns was the "key match" Vince McMahon wanted to change upon tearing up much of the WrestleMania 37 card a few weeks ago.

Speaking on today's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that lots of ideas were pitched to switch Reigns vs. Edge up, but a lot of them weren't good. The suggestion that Daniel Bryan should be added to the bout to make a it Triple Threat was the best of them.

Meltzer added that the Edge's heel turn and Bryan's addition to the match didn't come from any fear that Reigns might be cheered and The Rated R Superstar booed at WrestleMania 37, thus messing up the show. Instead, it was a simple case of McMahon changing his mind, having decided he wanted a villainous Edge.

The 2021 Royal Rumble winner seemed to turn heel by assaulting Reigns and Bryan with a steel chair during last night's Fastlane main event. This allowed Roman to crawl over and pin Bryan, retaining his Universal Title in the process.

WWE is yet to officially announce the Triple Threat. We may need to wait until this week's SmackDown for that.
