New Backstage Details On WWE Releasing Wesley Blake & Kalisto
Big update on the circumstances leading to Kalisto & Wesley Blake's WWE releases.
Fightful Select has come through with new details on Kalisto and Wesley Blake, who were both released by WWE as part of the company's latest round of cuts on 15 April.
Per the write-up, WWE creative had pitched the idea of Blake reuniting with former tag team partner Murphy following his other partner, Steve Cutler, getting cut from the promotion earlier this year. Cutler was jettisoned by the company in February, having tested positive for COVID-19.
Cutler and Blake both pitched ideas to get them back on television following Jaxson Ryker's banishment in May 2020. They eventually returned in December, aligning with Baron Corbin in a short-lived union.
Blake and Murphy are former NXT Tag Team Champions, holding the straps between January and August 2015, when Alexa Bliss was their manager.
As far as Kalisto goes, Fightful note the backstage praise he had received for getting into shape while off television. Kalisto had openly discussed free agency as a prospect in 2019 but ended up re-signing with the promotion the following January. Later, he stated a desire to leave the Lucha House Party and work as a singles star.
