Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott and Santos Escobar were billed to contest the former's North American Championship on last night's WWE NXT 2.0, but neither ended up leaving with the belt.

Carmelo Hayes swept in with partner Trick Williams after Scott vs. Escobar had played out. Though it initially looked like they were there to help Scott, who defeated Escobar, they ended up turning on him, with Hayes opting to cash-in his guaranteed title shot for winning this year's Breakout Tournament.

A quick, brisk match followed, with Hayes putting 'Swerve' down with a kick from the top rope, scoring his first NXT Championship in the process. He and Williams celebrated as the show went off the air.

Last night hosted Scott's first two North American Title defences. Though he had taken the belt from Bronson Reed back in June, the Hit Row leader had never put it on the line until he and Escobar faced off here. Scott won that match via JML Driver, having been attacked alongside Hit Row stablemates B-Fab and Top Dolla earlier in the evening, with his allies dragged into a car and effectively kidnapped by Escobar's Legado del Fantasma.

Hayes, 27, has been with WWE since February 2021, and now stands as one of the chief beneficiaries of NXT 2.0's recent reboot.
