As previously covered, Kevin Owens looks set to take some time off from WWE, having stated that he "needs a little break" from wrestling after losing to long-term rival Sami Zayn at Hell In A Cell 2021 this past Sunday.

Though Owens sold a wrist injury during the Zayn match, Dave Meltzer reported on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that the former Universal Champion's time off was due to storyline reasons.

There has been no indication of how long Owens' absence will last for. What WWE has planned for him on his return remains a mystery as well, though eating a relatively clean loss to Sami at HIAC would suggest that that storyline is over.

Owens has kept a relatively busy schedule in WWE, working every pay-per-view apart from March's Payback, including a lengthy Last Man Standing match with Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble 2021. Storyline or not, his hard-bumping, high-effort style means that he has more than earned some time off, too. An impactful flip bump to the floor at HIAC was the latest in a long line of high-impact Owens spots.

Here's hoping that the 37-year-old comes back rested and replenished.
