Backstage notes on WWE scrapping plans for Hornswoggle in Saudi Arabia.

Hornswoggle almost scored himself a match (and presumably a considerable payday) on one of WWE's controversial Saudi Arabian shows.

Per Fightful Select, WWE had planned to book him on one of these shows and had even gone as far as flying Robbie 'The Giant' Araujo over to the country as part of this, though Araujo ultimately wasn't used.

Araujo hasn't wrestled since December 2019, according to his CAGEMATCH profile, but was previously a regular on the north-eastern United States and Canadian independent circuits. He has also appeared on WWE programming as JB-Elf, serving as a commentator for Hornswoggle and El Torito's WeeLC match at Extreme Rules 2014.

Hornswoggle last wrestled for WWE at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia back in April 2018. He has stayed active on the indies since his release from the promotion in 2016.

The global COVID-19 pandemic put WWE's plans to hold two annual pay-per-views in Saudi Arabia on hold last year, with February 2020's Super ShowDown the company's last show in the Kingdom. Recent reports suggest that with the world starting to open up again, WWE plans on returning to Saudi Arabia by the end of 2021.
