In a new report from WrestlingINC, WWE is allegedly issuing “violations” to any talent who make mention of third party businesses, brands or charities on certain social media platforms.

This report claims that talent will initially receive a warning for any such violations, then a fine for any further mentions, and finally a suspension. If this latest story is to believed, WWE is claiming ownership of the Twitter and Instagram accounts of talent due to a clause in the performers' contracts that allows Vince McMahon’s sports entertainment juggernaut the exclusive use to the likeness of contracted wrestlers.

For those talent who have raised this as an issue, they have reportedly been informed that the current “flexibility” afforded to their social media activity could easily be retracted by WWE.

Of course, this follows on from the news last September that talent could no longer use platforms such as Twitch and Cameo. The fallout of that saw numerous third party accounts cease producing content, while Zelina Vega would end up being released by the company after continuing to use those platforms.

As an idea of just how beneficial social media can be to WWE talent, a LoveUX study recently revealed that Lana earned just under $626,000 from 59 sponsored posts across 2020 – which works out as over $10,000 for one solitary post!
