NJPW Announces 2 Major Stadium Shows For May
NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam hits Yokohama and Tokyo on 15 and 29 May respectively.
New Japan Pro Wrestling will run the Tokyo Dome outside of January for the first time in 16 years this May, the promotion has confirmed.
Wrestle Gran Slam was announced during today's 49th Anniversary Show. It'll be a two-parter spread across two separate stadiums, with the first event going down at Yokohama Stadium on 15 May and the second hitting the Dome on 29 May.
The Lion Mark looks set to keep a busy schedule over the coming months. The New Japan Cup kicks off tomorrow, following on from the anniversary event. After that it's Sakura Genesis on 4 April, Wrestling Dontaku on 3 and 4 May, then these Wrestle Grand Slam events, with smaller Road To shows filling the gaps in between.
15 May will be the first time NJPW has ever run an event at Yokohama Stadium. It should be similar to last year's Summer Struggle in Jingu, which went down in another open-air baseball arena, drawing 4,710 fans for New Japan's first major show since opening back up following the pandemic's onset.
Wrestle Kingdom 15 drew a combined attendance of 20,409 to the Tokyo Dome in January, with pandemic-related regulations limiting the number of tickets NJPW can sell.
