NJPW G1 Climax 2017: Early Favourites To Win

Another big outsider, Cody is yet to set the world alight in NJPW. The American Nightmare has put in solid singles performances against Juice Robinson and David Finlay, and Cody followed up the latter by pleading with New Japan management to send him someone a little more challenging. It wasn't Braun Strowman asking Mick Foley for competition, but the point was clear.

Cody has already announced that he will enter this year's G1 Climax. Many NJ fans responded with something approaching apathy, but sleep on Cody at your peril - the man is just a run of fantastic showings away from being the total package.

And that is exactly what the G1 provides. The annual round robin has a reputation for making careers. AJ Styles was something of a flop in Japan until his 2014 run, Michael Elgin was reborn in 2015, and last year's edition pushed Kenny Omega into the stratosphere. Cody is a huge outsider to win the whole thing, but not an impossibility.
