NJPW G1 Climax 2017: Early Favourites To Win

3. Kenny Omega

In 2016 Kenny Omega became the first gaijin winner of the G1 Climax. That alone makes it unlikely that he will claim the title again, as you have to go all the way back to 2004 and Hiroyoshi Tenzan to find a repeat winner. History is not on his side, but when has that ever stopped Kenny Omega?

Momentum well and truly is on Omega's side. The man from Winnipeg is arguably the focus of the company as we head into the summer of 2017. NJPW's expansion into the North American market has Omega front and centre of its business strategy, and the success or failure of the promotion may well lie in the hands of 'The Cleaner'.

Kenny Omega is a professional wrestler who thrives under the microscope. Omega seems to be free of many of the psychological barriers that may get in the way of his rivals. His confidence knows no boundaries, and it may well be this confidence that makes Omega a two-time G1 winner.

Being one of the best wrestlers on the planet certainly helps too.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
