NJPW G1 Climax 2018, Week 1: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Michael Elgin Vs Hangman Page (July 16th)

Kenny Omega Tetsuya Naito
NJPW

Rating: ****1/2

A model prepared professional, Kevin Kelly was armed with one of his best anecdotes as Hangman Page entered Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center for his second A Block battle against an in-form Michael Elgin. He noted that Page was the favoured selection of 'Mr G1' Masahiro Chono - no small honour considering his unmatched success in the competition.

After something of a false start against Bad Luck Fale, the Bullet Club star made his first match 'proper' count, fighting from underneath against 'Big Mike' in a contest that delivered much in potential if not points. Elgin was exceptional again, putting forth yet another performance that generated reactions greater than many above him in place and status on the card.
