NJPW G1 Climax 2019 Night 14 (August 4) - B BLOCK: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Jon Moxley Vs. Jay White

Jon Moxley’s perfect record came to an end in more ways than one in Osaka as his battle with Jay White failed to match the rest of his remarkable matches in the tournament thus far.

A drab middle third of a match already booked a few minutes too long really undermined Moxley’s hot start and White’s vicious and menacing end-of-match formula. Gedo playing spoiler with Moxley’s table use early on got great heat, but his later attempts at interference made the entire contest look and feel like a Bad Luck Fale shortcut clash rather than a battle between two of B Block’s most vital performers.

It perhaps speaks to the standard ‘Mox’ has already set (as well as the standard White is capable of) as to why this was a minor disappointment. An urgent start and thrilling finale made the most of the heat they’d built together in the build-up as well as the ramifications of the result, but stick-work and stakes are there to aid most G1 outings - these two hopefully have a better match in them if and when a United States Championship challenge occurs as result of ‘Switchblade’s win.
