NXT Star Gets Name Change

School of Hard Nox

TEGAN NOX
WWE

According to WWE's spiffy new Performance Centre website, NXT's Welsh starlet Steffanie Newell is now known under the new moniker 'Tegan Nox.'

23-year old Newell penned a deal with the company back in April 2017 with a view to compete in the Mae Young Classic, only for a nasty knee injury to dash her chances. She finally made her bow for the company this past April, competing under her birth name, Steffanie Newell. She teamed with Dakota Kai in a non-televised tag match opposite Reina González and Vanessa Borne - happily, the returnee won.

WWE's has a habit of giving their less well-established NXT 'trainees' nom-de-guerres, primarily for the purposes of gaining exclusive control over their trademark. 'Tegan' is a Welsh forename, a diminutive form of the 'Teg' ('fair'). It is often used to mean 'darling' or 'loved one', but is more commonly employed by Welsh speakers to mean 'toy'. 'Nox' is the Roman goddess of the night, though is likely to have been selected as a vague homonym and muddled anagram of Newell's previous adopted forename, 'Nixon'.

Newell... sorrry, 'Nox' - is scheduled to face Jinny for the PROGRESS Women's Championship this Sunday.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
