In just seven seconds, Matt Riddle went from laid-back surfer dude with a curious MMA background to red-hot star-in-the-making who will surely be part of the NXT Title scene within the next 12 months. This, complete with credible indy legend Kassius Ohno being put in his place, was a superb piece of business.

It was also an example of quality trumping length.

Riddle and Ohno didn't need countless near falls, neck-breaking spots or played out 'This Is Awesome' chants from a crowd who revel in such verbal displays of affection. All they required was one promo interruption, one call out, one knee strike and one celebration from NXT new 'Bro'. Simple, but effective as hell.

Within the modest span of his squash match win, Riddle illustrated his shoot-fighting ability and looked like a killer. Special credit must go to the announce trio for putting over his win as a statement; they, just as much as the wrestlers, had a role to play in elevating the former UFC man.
