NXT TakeOver WarGames II: 8 Things It Got Right
2. Booking The Babyface Win
Last year, NXT's original WarGames effort was less about putting forth a stirring babyface struggle and more about the gimmick itself. The Undisputed Era, SAnitY and the team of AOP and Roderick Strong were cheered for their risk-taking and hard work, not because of character alignment.
The second chapter in this NWA revival was a bit more straightforward.
Adam Cole (Bay Bay) and chums were the definite villains of the piece, and WWE did everything to ensure fans were right there for Pete Dunne, Ricochet and the War Raiders as good guys. The headliner was laid out meticulously so that people rooted for the faces. Just as well, 'cause they were the chosen winners.
As Dunne and Ricochet pondered their own unfinished business against each other atop the cage, fans were ready to bathe the heroes in adulation for overcoming every trick in the book from Cole, Strong, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish. A heroic win was absolutely the right call.
