6. Convinces Chris Candido And Others To Charge ECW Flights To Personal Credit Cards
As the Heyman documentary outlines, a number of wrestlers in ECW had unofficial office roles. Bubba Ray Dudley was the local promoter of a number of house shows. Taz designed T-shirts. Stevie Richards fulfilled merchandise. Tommy Dreamer did all of the above at various points. Chris Candido was one of the wrestlers who used his personal credit cards to buy plane tickets for the roster. That got ugly when Candido was fired for reasons that he didn't understand. Candido wanted to go to WCW, but Heyman had to complicate matters. Years later, Candido explained the situation to interviewer Larry Goodman. "I had to go ahead and sign some kind of paper that I wouldnt sue him or the company for the money he owed me, if he let me out of my contract to go to WCW. I dont know if he did it to get me pissed off at him, so I would leave. Then that way, he knew he could get me to sign that agreement so that I wouldnt go after him for the money he owed me. It was $170,000 in travel expenses that were left on my credit card. Not to mention back pay that I ended up having to eat. I had to sell my house to pay it back." Not only did he have to sell his house, but Candido's credit was destroyed. By the time of the interview, though, he held no ill will towards Heyman. "A lot of people have asked me why I havent choked him death when Ive seen him since that time. What it came down to is that if someone was going to suffer, you always like to be the big person and take the heat on yourself. When it came down to being able to get out of it somehow, I guess he had to what was best for him, and weve long since made up and brushed it under the rug. He obviously isnt going to come over and hand me like 200 grand. And I really dont feel going and fighting Paul E. So everythings been all squashed. Although, I never knew the reason for it."
