Paul Wight Nearly Ended Up In An Unlikely AEW Tag Team

The World's Largest Athlete was so nearly paired with THIS star.

The wrestling business has long been famed for pairing two unlikely partners together as a tag team, and one unique tandem we so nearly got was the duo of Paul Wight and Marko Stunt.

Stunt himself revealed this news during an appearance on the NBC Sports Boston's The Ten Count podcast, explaining how the World's Largest Athlete was the one who actually came up with this idea.

As per Wrestling Inc., Marko detailed:

"Me and him [Wight] had talked a bit about doing an angle. I am getting beat week after week and bullied, and then he's on commentary and I'm getting bullied one week, and finally he gets tried of it and he throws his mic down and he comes down to the ring and, like, saves me. And this was him pitching it to me, actually. He's like, 'Yeah, and then we can form this best buddy duo and I'll best your best friend', and he's like, 'Man, I'll play it up so well'. He's like, 'This is my best friend!' and he started singing. That would have been my dream angle right there, regardless of where it was being posted. He's like my favourite wrestler ever, so yeah, legitimately, my favourite wrestler of all time."

For whatever reason, this pairing clearly never came to be.

To date, Wight has only had four matches during his AEW tenure, with the former Big Show picking up a win over QT Marshall at All Out 2021, then emerging victorious in three AEW Dark: Elevation matches - the most recent of which came this past March.

As for Marko Stunt, Mr. Fun Size's time with AEW officially came to an end this past May. Having not competed for the promotion since September 2021, Stunt was informed in March that his AEW contract would not be renewed once it expired in May, with him having been with All Elite Wrestling as far back as the inaugural Double or Nothing in 2019.
