With us now down to just one match left in the legendary career of John Cena, all signs point to Gunther as the most likely opponent in Cena's final match. That said, some within WWE are seemingly not sold on that idea.

Per TC of WrestleVotes Live, certain WWE figures "don't love" the idea of Cena vs. Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event on 13 December.

"I know other people who don't love it. People within WWE don't love it. I know people on the inside don't love it, but understand it. Gunther has the potential to be huge - heel, or babyface if you want - for five, ten, 15 years with this company. So if he could be the one to retire John Cena, you'd probably take that."

Last night's Raw saw The Last Time Is Now Tournament's final match-up set, with LA Knight beating Jey Uso, and Gunther getting a win over Solo Sikoa, putting the Megastar and the Ring General on a collision course to decide John Cena's final opponent. Knight vs. Gunther will take place on this week's SmackDown, with the winner then going on to face Cena and SNME.

Interestingly, neither LA Knight nor Gunther has ever wrestled John Cena, though Knight has teamed with Big Match John on a couple of occasions.

Should Gunther indeed not only wrestle John Cena, but actually win that retirement match, the former two-time World Champion would be able to say that he was the man who retired both Cena and Bill Goldberg.
